New Federal Rule Expands Eligibility for Overtime

The Department of Labor has issued new rules that expand eligibility for overtime for workers. Starting December 1, 2016. Employees earning less than $47,467 annually are eligible for time-and-a-half for hours worked over 40 hours in a week. Employers should be aware of options under the new rules: limit employees’ hours to 40 hours per week, pay time-and-a-half for hours in excess of 40 hours, or increase the employees’ salaries above $47,467.
